GitLab Installation

  • GitLab is powered by Ruby on Rails.
  • Installs in dedicated hardware or OpenVZ / QEMU containers.
  • Free community edition (CE) available.
    • Git repository management, code reviews, issue tracking, activity feeds and wikis. It comes with GitLab CI for continuous integration and delivery.
    • Open Source MIT licensed, community driven, 700+ contributors, inspect and modify the source, easy to integrate into your infrastructure
    • Supports 25,000 users on one server or a highly available active/active cluster

Hardware and ISO Requirements

Installation

  • Install Ubuntu Server 14.04.3 LTS without LAMP.
  • Components like MySQL, Ruby, Git and Redis get installed with GitLab.
  • Update the server Using Terminal (CTRL-ALT-T) and Install
# Update Server
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get upgrade
 
# Install and configure the necessary dependencies
sudo apt-get install curl openssh-server ca-certificates postfix
 
# Add the GitLab package server
curl -sS https://packages.gitlab.com/install/repositories/gitlab/gitlab-ce/script.deb.sh | sudo bash
 
# Install and Configure GitLab
sudo apt-get install gitlab-ce
sudo gitlab-ctl reconfigure

Usage

  • Login to hostname or IP (eg., http://192.168.10.100) of GitLab Server From external client browser
  • Default Login And Password:
Username: root
Password: 5iveL!fe
